The 25th Anniversary Edition

Compliment of Google Books

Of “Bird By Bird” and I have to say I think Anne Lamott is a kick. So much so I Googled her to see if she was alive and well, helps if a person is living should you have interest in meeting them face to face.

The books cover splashes “Some Instructions on writing and life” but makes no mention on Anne’s, may I call her that without knowing her?, Miss Lamott, sigh, author Anne Lamott, yes that’s the ticket, ability to example a fine human being without effort.

I appreciate her manner of giving me a glimpse of what it is to be a writer, in an honest way. I am currently also reading Stephen Kings similar in which he does likewise in a different manner. I think Anne writes what most of us think but are afraid to admit, all the while making us laugh about it and our self in the process.

In a way she is letting us know it is alright to be human, not so much from your local Rabi, Priest, Atheist, or Church of Satan leaders perspective, more so as a requirement of respect so you might develop proper characters for your tales.

I enjoyed how her contents list looked so pedestrian with beginnings like “Getting Started, Short Assignments, Shitty First Drafts” closing with “The Last Class”. Then each in its turn being something I wasn’t expecting in spite of the heading.

I loved her ability to cover desperate subject without breaking our heart, because most of us are intimate with the devastation Cancer brings and sometimes require hand holding to get us to the other side. My family is riddled with it, and you will find that if you dance long enough with the reaper, his sense of humor rubs off, as hinted in the bindings.

If you are looking for a book on the “How To” for writing, as the author states, you learn by doing, and this may not be the Bible for you. While it does contain valuable information on writing, I wonder if you will appreciate it fully less your Quill is wet by ink.

I strongly recommend you read this ruby, it will warm and bring laughter while you learn unaware, green or seasoned I suspect you will be happy to have paged its contents.

You will see the familiar grounds of family and friends woven through it and find yourself nodding like a fool as if she might see your understanding and agreement.

While I tend to have a dryer sense of humor, I would love the opportunity to hear her firsthand.

Don’t take my word for it, check it out and see if your cup of leaf. After all we can’t all love the black tea, lol, oh I feel the brow of England upon me.
