The fear of success

Aka: It seems too good to be true

We are a strange lot, complaining when things don’t go as planned and scarred shitless when we finally fall into a bed of Roses.

Love wears many disguises over our lifetime. The few chosen find their forever partners in high school or college.

Some believe they have landed that individual only to be blindsided by a special someone in an Amish drive-by shooting, horse-drawn carriage style.

A scattered few continue the search for that storybook person, no matter their situation, because they believe in their heart that True love exists and they must experience the fairytale.

I believe in all cases we reach that hesitation point because we fear our heart is overwriting our mind.

That fear compounds if we have battle fatigue and a few relationship failures.

If a relationship of comfort with children exists, then we edge full nightmare status as real love arrives.

We panic and flounder like a fish on a hook unintentionally sabotaging progress under the weight of disbelief and guilt.

Until fully exhausted and staring at our soul in the mirror, knowing it is true love without a chance of escape.

Defenseless, we stand alone in disbelief and shock. Throwing every last ditch effort to prove it wrong.

Our heart is like a golden retriever whose only mission in life is to make us happy.

So we take a deep breath, hoping we are worthy and deserving.

Yes, we are a strange lot.
